A common cold makes children miserable. While there's not much one can do to speed up their recovery.  There are ways to make your child more comfortable to treat illness and boost the kid's immunity; here are some home remedies to try.

Cold and a flu are a likely “club” that your child will join anytime. It’s likely you will follow suit due contact of same flu and cold causes. The imagination and irritation that comes with illness is burdening. It’s all running nose, fatigue and general flu-ish symptoms.

However, it's common for all kids to develop colds as they are exposed to germs, and their immunity is very low. It's challenging and draining to watch your child run down with a cold, but the unexpected happens.   • Keep kids home and well-rested.

If the kid is diagnosed with a cold, let the child have bed rest to help the body's immune system fight the cold. It takes energy to fight an infection, which wears out a child, but when the kid rests, it will help the child heal.

  • Keep the kid hydrated.

When the kid is sneezing and coughing, it is good for them to remain hydrated. Giving the kid plenty of water will help battle the common cold, minimize throat inflammation, and clear out the infection. In exchange, you can give your child fresh juice or warm soup to replace the body’s lost energy of the child.

  • Salt and water gargling

Let the child gargle with lukewarm salt water twice daily to soothe the throat. This will give instant relief from pain and throat infection. Salt gargling will work well for kids over four years.

  • Good nutrition

Give the child more fresh fruits and vegetables as they contain essential nutrients your child's immune system relies on to fight illness. If the kid has a continuous cold, a healthy diet supplement could be needed to support their nutrition.

  • Kid’s massage

Massaging the kid's chest, back, and neck with mustard oil and garlic will be most effective for the child. Just cover the child’s palms and feet with oil for immediate comfort.

  • Turmeric milk

A simple glass of warm milk with turmeric powder will do wonders for your little one. This will relieve a sore throat and a running nose as milk provides energy due to its high calcium, and turmeric is known to treat viral infections like colds due to its antiseptic properties.

  • Sponge the child with lukewarm water.

A lukewarm sponge bath helps soothe a baby and may bring down their uncomfortable temperature. Fill a container with warm water and use a sponge to wipe them down.

  • Fresh air for the child

Taking the kid outside for fresh air helps to loosen the mucus in the nasal passages. If the weather permits, let the kid go outside and enjoy some fresh air, improving the kid.

  • Honey

Mix some honey with hot water and squeeze lemon juice, then let the child drink when it is lukewarm. This will ease sore throat pain in the child. Honey has various antibacterial properties and should be given to kids over one year.

  • Topical ointments

Some oils containing menthol or eucalyptus oil reduce nighttime coughs. Apply one or two drops on the kid's chest or rub the nose to reduce congestion, sleep, and coughing.

  • Chicken soup

A warm bowl of homemade chicken soup can work well for the child as the nutrients in the soup assist their immune system, and the steam aids in clearing congestion.

  • Ginger tea

Grate some fresh ginger and pour it into boiling water to make ginger tea. Honey and lemon can also be added to the tea.

  • Sanitizing of hands

Suppose the child is affected by cold symptoms. Make sure anyone in the house keeps their hands sanitized to stop the spread of more infections as they come closer to the child.
